I wanted to share this. This is not a complete quote but it's the essence.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, in his essay "Success" said,
The sum of wisdom is, that the time is never lost that is devoted to work. If the artist, in whatever art, is well at work on his own design, it signifies little that he does not find his orders or customers. To be content with acquiring the skills is to be happy. The time your rival spends dressing his work for effect, hastily for a market, you spend in study and experiments towards real knowledge and efficiency. He may win the prize or get the appointment; but you have raised yourself into a higher school of art, and a few years will show the advantage of the real master over the short popularity of the showman.

Thanks for posting this quote, Rob.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good quote for motivating artists.
I agree...and all artists have to get into the FLOW...go through the process of creating and 'play' with their materials in order to study, experiment and 'fall into the work' with no distraction...such is a time for me...only outside family stress has stopped my process this week!
ReplyDeleteNeed to get back on track and follow the yellow brickroad!
