The following is an invite I recied from the FAU libraries book art collection. They sometimes have artists come in and talk about their work or certain movements. It may be something good to go and see.

February 20, 1909 saw the first publication of Italian poet F.T.
Marinetti's "Futurist Manifesto." Luckily, the libraries and museums
are still standing (the Futurists advocated destroying them all),
and, oddly enough, their work is collected in places like the Jaffe
Center for Book Arts, where we have a fascination with Futurist
typography and book design.

And now, to celebrate this 100th anniversary, JCBA is joining forces
with FAU's Program in Italian Studies for an evening celebration of
Futurist poetry and the Sixteenth Annual Connie DeMarco Distinguished
Lecture in Italian Studies: Lucia Re, professor of Italian &
Comparative Literature, UCLA, will present "Futurist Italy: Women,
Speed and the Irony of War."

Professor Re specializes in 19th and 20th Century Italian literature
and culture with emphasis on fin-de-siècle, modernism, and the avant-
garde, and on Italy's history under fascism. Her current research
includes work on the relationship between Futurism, fascism,
colonialism, and feminism.

Students from the Italian Studies program will be reading some
Futurist poetry (entertaining stuff, even if you don't understand
Italian) and JCBA's John Cutrone will read an intriguing recipe or
two from F.T. Marinetti's 1932 "Futurist Cookbook." There will also
be a small reception in the JCBA Lobby and we'll put together a mini-
exhibition of items from FAU Libraries' Rosa Trillo Clough Archive of
Italian Futurism as we celebrate 100 years of Italian Futurism.
